The early days of babyhood are a time of discovery, as infants adjust to their new environment and parents get used to the whims of their newest family member. Crying is a form of communication for infants, but it’s also the number one cause of pediatric visits in the first 3 months of life. The exact cause of colic, defined as long periods of crying without an obvious cause, is generally unknown. However, research suggests that the discomfort and irritability associated with this condition is often grounded in an upset stomach.
